Position Overview:
The Field Service Technician is a critical member of the Coastline Equipment team, responsible for providing exceptional on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair services for John Deere and Wirtgen construction equipment. Operating from our Santa Maria location, this role ensures minimal downtime for our clients by offering prompt and expert technical support. By maintaining our reputation for quality and reliability, the Field Service Technician plays a vital role in supporting Coastline Equipment's mission to deliver superior service solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced on-site diagnostics and repairs on John Deere and Wirtgen construction equipment, adhering to technical manual procedures.
- Participate in service training programs, including Service EDUCATE, to stay updated on industry standards and advancements.
- Engage directly with customers to discuss maintenance, repairs, and service concerns, ensuring transparency and satisfaction.
- Promote and sell dealership service programs when appropriate to enhance client equipment performance and longevity.
- Maintain the condition of the mobile service vehicle, tools, and inventory to ensure operational readiness.
- Accurately document all work performed, including diagnostics, parts used, and labor time, in work orders.
- Comply with all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with the Parts Department to establish effective stocking processes for necessary equipment and seasonal inventory.
- Stay informed about advancements and features of John Deere, Wirtgen, and competitor products.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Service Manager or Branch Manager.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment service and repair.
- Valid driver’s license (Commercial Driver’s License preferred).
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in John Deere and Wirtgen construction equipment.
- Proficiency in diagnostics tools, including Service Advisor, and basic computer functions.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to explain technical information effectively.
Preferred Experience:
- Certification as an Advanced or Master Service Technician.
- Previous experience working in a dealership or with construction equipment.
- Forklift operator’s license.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and procedures.
Work Environment:
- This is a field-based role, requiring frequent travel to customer job sites within the service region.
- Work may involve exposure to varying environmental conditions, including outdoor settings and inclement weather.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to the Service Manager.
- Collaborates with Service Technicians, Parts Specialists, and other staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay Range: $37.00 - $41.00 per hour (based on skills, experience, and qualifications).
- Benefits Package: Includes health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and a 401(k) with company match (benefits available after 90 days of employment).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The role involves frequent use of hands to handle tools and equipment and may require lifting/moving up to 75 pounds.
